A 3.5 Watt purple laser diode (445 nm) that can run continuously without additional cooling gives the Endurance L-Cheapo cutter/engraver plenty of power to burn through acrylic, wood, plywood and leather up to 1/4″ (6,5 mm) thick (some experiments showed that it can cut even 1/3” (8,5 mm) of wood and plywood with multi passes.
The ability to work with leather opens up the possibility for translating all those complex intricate designs you have in mind to physical reality. The laser can also be used to ablate material, creating arbitrary 3D relief (something that expensive CO2 lasers cannot do!), though it should be mentioned the high temperature blackens most materials.
